About Monarch Mountain
Monarch Mountain straddles the Continental Divide on Monarch Pass, about 20 miles west of Salida, Colorado. Famous for all-natural snow, it has no snowmaking yet averages around 350 inches a season. A January 2026 expansion into No Name Basin added 377 acres and the Tomichi triple chair, the resort's first new lift since 1999, bringing it to 1,146 skiable acres, 80 trails, and nine lifts across a 1,225-foot vertical drop. Founded in 1939 and still independently owned, Monarch keeps a low-key, family-friendly feel, with three terrain parks and guided cat-skiing available on adjacent backcountry terrain. There is no night skiing.
