About Aspen Mountain
Aspen Mountain, known locally as Ajax, rises directly above downtown Aspen, Colorado, reached by the Silver Queen Gondola from Gondola Plaza. Nine lifts serve 76 trails and 3,267 vertical feet across 673 acres of entirely intermediate-and-up terrain; there's no beginner run on the mountain. Founded in 1946 by Walter Paepcke with help from 10th Mountain Division veterans Friedl Pfeifer and Pete Seibert, it hosted the 1950 FIS World Championships, the first held outside Europe. It's the fourth Aspen Snowmass mountain on both Ikon and Mountain Collective, joining Highlands, Buttermilk, and Snowmass.
