Lotte Arai, in Myoko, Niigata, reopened in December 2017 after a multi-year renovation turned a shuttered ski area into a boutique luxury resort. It runs 14 courses plus eight zones of ungroomed, backcountry-style terrain, and carries Ikon Pass access. The resort pairs its skiing with a 257-room hotel, spa, and one of Asia's longest zip tours at over 1,500 meters. It's a quieter, higher-end alternative to Hakuba or Niseko for travelers chasing deep Niigata snow without the crowds.
