About Whiteface
Whiteface is New York's Olympic mountain, run by the state's Olympic Regional Development Authority above Lake Placid, with the greatest continuous lift-served vertical drop in eastern North America at 3,166 feet. Ninety-four trails spread across the mountain, reached by 11 lifts including a gondola, and two terrain parks plus a halfpipe handle the freestyle side. Hikers willing to earn extra turns can drop into The Slides for double-black terrain above the lift-served runs. For 2026-27, Whiteface joined the Mountain Collective as a new destination, adding an East Coast heavyweight to a roster that otherwise leans West and international.
