About Blue Hills Ski Area
Blue Hills Ski Area is the closest ski hill to Boston, set on the western face of Great Blue Hill in Canton, Massachusetts, inside the state-owned Blue Hills Reservation. Opened in 1950, it offers a modest 309-foot vertical drop across roughly 60 acres, with mostly beginner and intermediate terrain, a terrain park, and night skiing on lit trails. Under operator Geoff Homer, who took over in 2024 after decades running Maine's Pleasant Mountain, the area has been actively expanding its lifts, snowmaking, and lighting. Its compact, community-hill character makes it a popular first-turns spot for city skiers close to home.
