About Whakapapa

Whakapapa covers the northern slopes of Mount Ruapehu, the biggest ski area on New Zealand's North Island, and came under new management, Whakapapa Holdings, in 2025 after years of ownership turmoil. It's part of the Powder Alliance, letting Northern Hemisphere passholders ski here during New Zealand's winter season. A new gondola and the Snowland beginner area are recent additions to the base. Along with Turoa on the mountain's southern side, it makes Ruapehu one of the more substantial ski destinations in the Southern Hemisphere.
