Kirkwood sits at 7,800 feet in the Sierra Nevada south of Lake Tahoe, isolated enough that it holds onto storms and powder longer than most California resorts. Full Epic access includes a 2,000-foot vertical drop, with a reputation for steep chutes and cliff terrain that draws serious backcountry-minded skiers even though it's entirely lift-served. It's a quieter, more remote outpost than Vail's bigger Tahoe-area properties.
